Hello, Nava!

My name is Jake and I'm a passionate communications strategist, experienced project manager, and fierce advocate for equity and systems change. I believe in telling stories with purpose and amplifying the voices of traditionally marginalized identities in the process. These are the stories I choose to tell in my own filmmaking and the causes I champion in the places I work.

With over seven years of experience in marketing, communications, and leadership, and a deep commitment to working with organizations that value inclusion and equity, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute to Nava's mission of building civic technology that serves diverse communities.

 

In my current role as Director of Marketing and Communications at the Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL), I have developed and implemented multi-channel marketing strategies that led to significant growth in both recruitment and client acquisition. This includes surpassing recruitment goals by 157% and increasing contract values by $1.8 million. In this capacity, I manage a team and work closely with cross-functional departments to align communication strategies with organizational objectives, ensuring consistency in messaging across all channels.

 

Previously, as Marketing and Communications Manager at Language & Culture Worldwide (LCW), a DEI consultancy, I led marketing and communication efforts that aligned with the organization’s mission to foster inclusivity and equity in the workplace. My work included creating targeted multi-channel campaigns and overseeing internal and external communications during a pivotal organizational transition. This experience has solidified my understanding of the importance of diverse perspectives and the impact of empathetic communication in shaping narratives that resonate with a broad audience.

 

I am particularly drawn to Nava’s emphasis on building technology with empathy and inclusion, which aligns with my professional values. My background in managing complex projects and campaigns, coupled with my ability to collaborate across teams and build strong media relationships, positions me to effectively lead Nava’s communications strategy. I am confident that my proactive approach, adaptability, and commitment to equity would make a valuable contribution to your team.
